UP Police Typing Test — Exam Overview

Exam & practice guide

UP Police typing practice should begin with the exact post name. Computer Operator Grade A and ASI Clerk/Accounts have separate recruitment instructions; one timer or accuracy threshold cannot represent every post.

For context, the linked historical UPPRPB Computer Operator technical document describes 15-minute sessions in each language, 30 WPM English and 25 WPM Hindi, with a 10-minute interval. Confirm the current recruitment instructions before treating that format as applicable to your examination. For the 2025–26 SI (Confidential) / ASI (Clerk) / ASI (Accounts) recruitment, ASI Clerk is commonly reported as 25 WPM Hindi and 30 WPM English and ASI Accounts as 15 WPM Hindi, but secondary summaries disagree — confirm in your notice. The 85% accuracy target on this tool is a practice benchmark.

How this exam differs

3 Points
1

Computer Operator and ASI recruitment instructions are not interchangeable. Confirm the exact post before choosing a language, layout and duration.

2

The linked historical UPPRPB Computer Operator technical document describes English and Hindi sessions. It does not establish the rules for every later police recruitment.

3

The 85% accuracy indicator in this practice configuration is a TypingHub training target, not a universal UP Police cutoff.

Check the Post Before Practising

2 Posts
  • Computer Operator Grade A: consult its own typing instructions
  • ASI Clerk / Accounts: check the separate recruitment advertisement

A shared practice tool does not mean all these recruitments use the same selection or marking rules.

Practice Scores and Official Qualification

  • Use this page’s speed and accuracy report to find weaknesses in your typing.
  • Use the authority’s notice for qualifying speed, marks, error allowance and accommodation conditions.
  • Do not convert practice error counts into an official examination score.

Practise the Two-Language Reference Format

What the historical document describes

  • iOne 15-minute session in each language: English at 30 WPM and Hindi at 25 WPM.
  • iA 10-minute interval between the two sessions.
  • iIt is a Computer Operator document; ASI Clerk / Accounts have their own instructions.

How to practise it here

  • iRun a 15-minute English passage, rest for 10 minutes, then a 15-minute Hindi passage.
  • iAt 30 WPM English you need about 450 correct words in 15 minutes; at 25 WPM Hindi about 375.
  • iCheck the Hindi keyboard layout named in your notice before you practise Hindi.

Training for Two Back-to-Back Sessions

1

Train each language separately first

Reach a stable 15-minute English score and a stable 15-minute Hindi score before combining them.

2

Then combine with the break

Practise both sessions with a 10-minute gap, as in the reference document, so the second session does not surprise you.

3

Protect the weaker language

Most candidates are slower in Hindi. Give it more practice time, since a low score there cannot be balanced by English.

4

Keep the layout fixed

Use one Hindi layout throughout your preparation; switching layouts resets your muscle memory.

Exam-Day Rules, Accommodations & Common Mistakes

Check the official UP Police Typing Test notice

  • iReporting time, identity documents, the keyboard and software provided, scribe or compensatory-time provisions, and how mistakes are counted are set by the recruiting body. The current notification and your admit card override any general advice.
  • iGeneral questions: Backspace rules, keyboard layouts and Hindi fonts are answered in the typing exam FAQ.
  • iRoutines and drills: scoring rules, accuracy drills and test-day routines are in our exam guides.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

During Practice

  • ✗Practising a Hindi font or layout other than the one your notice names (the notice sets the font and layout)
  • ✗Looking at keyboard instead of screen/passage
  • ✗Ignoring repeated errors while chasing a higher practice speed

During Test

  • ✗Spending too much time correcting minor errors mid-way
  • ✗Retyping completed portions unnecessarily
  • ✗Not confirming the Hindi font and layout named in the notice before the test

Mindset Mistakes

  • ✗Panicking after making initial errors — composure is key
  • ✗Not practising on the Hindi font and layout your notice names before exam day
  • ✗Underestimating the importance of posture and hand position

Reading Your Report for Each Language

1

Compare like with like

Judge English against English and Hindi against Hindi; the targets are different (30 and 25 WPM).

2

Watch the last five minutes

In a 15-minute session, errors that cluster near the end show fatigue. Add longer sessions before pushing speed.

3

Confirm your post

Computer Operator and ASI Clerk / Accounts are separate recruitments. Practise to the pattern in your own advertisement.

Understanding Your TypingHub Practice Report

Characters and words

  • iCharacter comparison: Ordinary incorrect, extra or missing characters carry full weight in the practice analysis. A single misspelled word can contain several character errors.
  • iCase and punctuation: Case-only substitutions and punctuation substitutions receive half weight. Added or omitted characters are counted separately.
  • iSkipped or extra words: The report identifies missing and extra words as well as character differences. Read the highlighted passage to understand each mismatch.

Using the result

  • iTwo accuracy measures: Character accuracy and word accuracy measure different things. A word counts as correct only when it matches the reference word.
  • iPractice targets: A practice pass or fail is based on this test’s configured targets. It is not a recruiting authority’s qualification decision.
  • iOfficial evaluation: Check the notice and evaluation instructions for your exact recruitment year, post and category. Do not convert this report into official examination marks.

Understanding Your Typing Practice Report

The arithmetic behind Gross WPM, Net WPM and key depressions. Your notice decides which of these it uses.

4 Measures

Gross WPM

Gross WPM = (total keystrokes ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Letters, spaces and punctuation all count, and five keystrokes make one standard word.

Net WPM

Net WPM subtracts a penalty for uncorrected errors from Gross WPM. Two candidates with the same raw speed can end up several WPM apart.

Key depressions (KDPH)

Some notices state speed as key depressions. 35 WPM equals 10,500 key depressions an hour (35 × 5 × 60), and 30 WPM equals 9,000.

Full and half mistakes

TypingHub groups errors to help you review an attempt. Full and half weights in this report are practice feedback; use your recruitment's evaluation instructions for official penalties.

4-Week Practice Plan for UP Police Typing Test

An adaptable practice routine, not a qualification guarantee. Repeat a stage until your accuracy is steady.

4 Weeks

Week 1: Accuracy base

Touch-typing drills without looking at the keys. Hold 95% accuracy or better and ignore speed for now.

Week 2: Build speed

Two timed five-minute runs a day. Raise your pace by two or three WPM only once accuracy stays steady.

Week 3: Full-length mocks

One full UP Police Typing Test mock a day for the exam's full duration. Read the error report and retype the words you missed.

Week 4: Exam rehearsal

Practise at your exam's time of day, on a full-size keyboard, with your notice's backspace rule. Aim a few WPM above the target.

Frequently Asked Questions (UP Police Typing Test)

6 Questions
HINDI

Can I practise the UP Police Hindi typing test here?

Yes. Choose Hindi in the Language menu of this test. It sets the 25 WPM Hindi target, opens on Inscript and lists Hindi passages. Keep your keyboard on English; the test types the Hindi letters for the layout you pick. The UPPRPB notice asks for Hindi in Unicode on the Inscript keyboard, so this test opens Hindi on Inscript.

FAQ 2

Does this practice page guarantee qualification?

No. It reports practice speed and accuracy. The recruiting authority makes the qualification decision under its own rules.

FAQ 3

Which duration should I use?

15 minutes is the default practice timer here, taken from the historical Computer Operator document. Session lengths reported for the 2025–26 ASI recruitment have not been confirmed from an official notice, so check the duration for your exact post, year and approved accommodations.

FAQ 4

Is 85% accuracy an official cutoff?

It is the configured TypingHub practice target on this page. Do not treat it as a universal police or court cutoff.

FAQ 5

How should I interpret error penalties?

Review the highlighted errors to improve your typing. The practice analysis must not be converted into an official mark deduction.

FAQ 6

Where should I check the actual rules?

Start with your recruitment advertisement, then check subsequent skill-test instructions, corrigenda and your admit card. The historical reference below is provided with its scope identified.
