Organise your CHSL typing preparation

3 Steps

Choose your target post before starting. This course provides timed typing practice; LDC/JSA and DEO requirements differ. Keep the same language and timer when comparing results, and check the official post-specific pattern before planning your sessions.

  1. Complete a fresh timed passage and identify the mistakes that recur.
  2. Use a short custom drill for those words, punctuation marks or key combinations.
  3. Return to a new full passage and compare completion and accuracy before increasing your pace.

The course provides practice access, not an official SSC assessment or a guarantee of qualification. Enrollment details come from the current catalogue; an unavailable price means checkout is unavailable until that information loads.

SSC CHSL Typing Test — Exam Overview

Exam & practice guide

SSC CHSL typing practice needs to match your post. The cited CHSL 2026 notice separates the LDC/JSA typing test from the DEO skill test. LDC/JSA uses a 10-minute test at 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi; DEO uses a separate 15-minute data-entry task.

Use this page for timed practice and error review. TypingHub is independent of SSC. Its practice result does not replace the Commission’s evaluation, cutoff or selection decision.

How this exam differs

3 Points
1

LDC/JSA and DEO have different patterns: the cited CHSL 2026 notice gives LDC/JSA a 10-minute typing task and DEO a 15-minute skill test.

2

From CHSL 2026, Hindi-medium LDC/JSA candidates must type in Mangal font only; using any other font means non-qualification (notice para 13.9.13.7(viii)). TypingHub’s Hindi output is Unicode, which is what a Mangal console records.

3

The typing test is Session-II of Tier-II, held on the same day as the Tier-II written sections after a re-registration break. DEO posts need 8,000 or 15,000 KDPH, so choose the post-specific pattern instead of the LDC/JSA threshold.

Choose the Correct CHSL Practice Pattern

2 Posts
  • LDC / JSA: English or Hindi typing
  • DEO / DEO Grade A: the applicable data-entry skill test

Do not apply the 35 WPM LDC/JSA requirement to every DEO post. Match the duration, language and speed to your notice.

Which Requirement Applies?

Post / mediumStandard duration and speedSource scope
LDC/JSA — English10 minutes; 35 WPMCHSL 2026 notice
LDC/JSA — Hindi10 minutes; 30 WPMCHSL 2026 notice
DEO / DEO Grade A15 minutes; post-specific KDPHCheck Part A or B

Category-wise error cutoffs are not a permanent universal percentage. Read the applicable SSC result write-up and evaluation guidelines.

Important qualifying notes

  • Use the post-specific notification for compensatory time and exemption conditions.
  • This practice page does not issue a recruitment qualification.

Plan a CHSL Practice Attempt

LDC/JSA preparation

  • iChoose English or Hindi to match your application and available practice setup.
  • iPractise a complete 10-minute passage with steady reading and accurate spacing.
  • iReview your slowest combinations before repeating a new passage.

DEO preparation

  • iCheck whether your post falls under the 8,000 or 15,000 KDPH requirement.
  • iUse a full 15-minute session when practising the DEO pattern.
  • iPractise numbers and punctuation as well as ordinary words; WPM alone does not describe every data-entry mistake.

Practice and Recruitment Instructions

Prepare accurately

  • iUse the duration and language appropriate to your post.
  • iReview the latest regional skill-test instructions before the examination.

Avoid assumptions

  • iSoftware, allowed keys and accommodation conditions must be confirmed from the official instructions.
  • iThe TypingHub report is practice feedback and does not establish an SSC cutoff.

Preparation Tips & Strategy

Speed & Accuracy Strategy

1

Accuracy first

Aim for less than 3% errors before trying to increase speed

2

Daily practice

30–45 min daily is more effective than occasional long sessions

3

Touch typing

Learn home row position and avoid looking at the keyboard

4

Target speed

Aim for 40–45 WPM to build a safe safety margin for exam day

5

Mock tests

Practice full 10-minute timed sessions regularly

Content & Keyboard Tips

1

Read ahead

Train your eyes to read 1–2 words ahead while typing

2

Special characters

Practice commas, full stops, apostrophes, and capital letters

3

Rhythm

Maintain a steady typing rhythm — avoid bursts followed by pauses

4

Familiar content

Practice with government-style passages — similar to actual CHSL content

5

Error correction

Practice using Backspace efficiently without breaking rhythm

PwBD Provisions in the CHSL 2026 Notice

LDC / JSA typing test

  • iScribe-eligible candidates get 15 minutes instead of 10.
  • iVH candidates with a scribe get a passage dictator. Candidates certified as unable to type may be exempted.

DEO skill test

  • iScribe-eligible candidates get 20 minutes instead of 15.
  • iNo DEO candidate is exempted from the skill test (notice para 13.9.13.6).

Exam-Day Rules, Accommodations & Common Mistakes

Check the official SSC CHSL Typing Test notice

  • iReporting time, identity documents, the keyboard and software provided, scribe or compensatory-time provisions, and how mistakes are counted are set by the recruiting body. The current notification and your admit card override any general advice.
  • iGeneral questions: Backspace rules, keyboard layouts and Hindi fonts are answered in the typing exam FAQ.
  • iRoutines and drills: scoring rules, accuracy drills and test-day routines are in our exam guides.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

During Practice

  • ✗Practicing only for speed without focusing on accuracy
  • ✗Looking at keyboard instead of screen/passage
  • ✗Skipping special characters (commas, apostrophes) during practice

During Test

  • ✗Spending too much time correcting minor errors mid-way
  • ✗Retyping completed portions unnecessarily
  • ✗Not confirming personal details before test begins

Mindset Mistakes

  • ✗Panicking after making initial errors — composure is key
  • ✗Not practicing on similar software before exam day
  • ✗Underestimating the importance of posture and hand position

A Repeatable CHSL Practice Routine

1

Fix one weakness

Choose spacing, letter order or numbers from your latest report. Practise that weakness for five minutes before another full test.

2

Compare like with like

Compare the same language and duration across three attempts. Avoid treating a one-minute peak as your full-test speed.

Understanding Your TypingHub Practice Report

Characters and words

  • iCharacter comparison: Ordinary incorrect, extra or missing characters carry full weight in the practice analysis. A single misspelled word can contain several character errors.
  • iCase and punctuation: Case-only substitutions and punctuation substitutions receive half weight. Added or omitted characters are counted separately.
  • iSkipped or extra words: The report identifies missing and extra words as well as character differences. Read the highlighted passage to understand each mismatch.

Using the result

  • iTwo accuracy measures: Character accuracy and word accuracy measure different things. A word counts as correct only when it matches the reference word.
  • iPractice targets: A practice pass or fail is based on this test’s configured targets. It is not a recruiting authority’s qualification decision.
  • iOfficial evaluation: Check the notice and evaluation instructions for your exact recruitment year, post and category. Do not convert this report into official examination marks.

Understanding Your Typing Practice Report

The arithmetic behind Gross WPM, Net WPM and key depressions. Your notice decides which of these it uses.

4 Measures

Gross WPM

Gross WPM = (total keystrokes ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Letters, spaces and punctuation all count, and five keystrokes make one standard word.

Net WPM

Net WPM subtracts a penalty for uncorrected errors from Gross WPM. Two candidates with the same raw speed can end up several WPM apart.

Key depressions (KDPH)

Some notices state speed as key depressions. 35 WPM equals 10,500 key depressions an hour (35 × 5 × 60), and 30 WPM equals 9,000.

Full and half mistakes

TypingHub groups errors to help you review an attempt. Full and half weights in this report are practice feedback; use your recruitment's evaluation instructions for official penalties.

4-Week Practice Plan for SSC CHSL Typing Test

An adaptable practice routine, not a qualification guarantee. Repeat a stage until your accuracy is steady.

4 Weeks

Week 1: Accuracy base

Touch-typing drills without looking at the keys. Hold 95% accuracy or better and ignore speed for now.

Week 2: Build speed

Two timed five-minute runs a day. Raise your pace by two or three WPM only once accuracy stays steady.

Week 3: Full-length mocks

One full SSC CHSL Typing Test mock a day for the exam's full duration. Read the error report and retype the words you missed.

Week 4: Exam rehearsal

Practise at your exam's time of day, on a full-size keyboard, with your notice's backspace rule. Aim a few WPM above the target.

Frequently Asked Questions (SSC CHSL Typing Test)

9 Questions
HINDI

Can I practise the SSC CHSL Hindi typing test here?

Yes. Choose Hindi in the Language menu of this test. It sets the 30 WPM Hindi target, opens on Remington GAIL (the Kruti Dev keys) and lists Hindi passages. Keep your keyboard on English; the test types the Hindi letters for the layout you pick. The SSC CHSL 2026 notice accepts Mangal font only; this test types Unicode text, which is what a Mangal console records.

SCHEDULE

When is the CHSL 2026 typing test?

It is held as Session-II of Tier-II, on the same day as the Tier-II written sections. SSC's Important Notice of 01.10.2026 (F. No. HQ-EC033/7/2025-EC) schedules CHSL 2026 Tier-I from 30 November to 31 December 2026; as of October 2026 the Tier-II date, and so the typing test date, is still to be notified.

PwBD

How much time do scribe-eligible candidates get?

15 minutes for the LDC/JSA typing test instead of 10, and 20 minutes for the DEO skill test instead of 15. Candidates certified as unable to type may be exempted from the LDC/JSA test, but no DEO candidate is exempted (CHSL 2026 notice, para 13.9.13.6–7).

QUALIFYING

Is the CHSL typing test scored or only qualifying?

Qualifying. SSC evaluates it under its published evaluation guidelines and calculates errors to two decimal places (CHSL 2026 notice, para 13.9.13.2–4).

FAQ 5

What speed is required for SSC CHSL LDC/JSA?

The cited CHSL 2026 notice specifies 35 WPM English or 30 WPM Hindi over 10 minutes. These correspond to 10,500 and 9,000 KDPH.

FAQ 6

Is the DEO test the same as LDC/JSA typing?

No. DEO has a separate 15-minute skill test, with 8,000 or 15,000 KDPH depending on the specified post/department.

FAQ 7

Is a practice pass the official CHSL result?

No. TypingHub reports practice speed and accuracy. SSC applies its own evaluation instructions and recruitment-specific cutoffs.

FAQ 8

Can I change my typing language at the examination?

The cited notice treats the LDC/JSA medium chosen in the application as final. Confirm your submitted choice before planning practice.

FAQ 9

How can I improve accuracy without losing speed?

Use a fresh timed passage, identify repeated omissions and letter errors, then practise those combinations slowly. Compare complete sessions with the same settings.
