The UPSSSC Junior Assistant (Kanishth Sahayak) typing test under Advt. No. 12-Exam/2024 is reported to start on 13 November 2026, moved from 30 October 2026 by a commission notice dated 25 September 2026. About 46,282 candidates were shortlisted from the main written exam result of 15 September 2026. The required speeds are 25 words per minute in Hindi and 30 words per minute in English, and the test is qualifying: it decides whether you stay in the race, not your rank.
This guide covers what the test is, the speed rules, the Hindi font question, the schedule and a practical plan for the weeks left. Confirm every detail against your admit card and the notices on upsssc.gov.in, because the typing-test instructions had not been published in full when this was written.
What the UPSSSC Junior Assistant typing test is
Advt. No. 12-Exam/2024 was issued on 26 November 2024 for Junior Assistant posts. Only candidates who qualified UPSSSC PET 2023 could apply. Applications ran from 23 December 2024 to 22 January 2025. The advertisement first listed 2,702 posts. Later coverage of the result notice gives a revised figure of about 3,284 (one report gives 3,279).
Selection runs in stages: the main written exam, then the typing test for shortlisted candidates, then document verification. Published coverage describes the typing test as qualifying in nature. Merit comes from the written exam, so typing marks are not added to your score. If you fail the typing test, though, the written score does not help you.
The advertisement also asks for a CCC certificate (NIELIT, formerly DOEACC) or an equivalent computer certificate from a recognised institution. Coverage says it had to be held by the closing date, 22 January 2025. Keep it ready for document verification. It is an eligibility condition, not a part of the typing test.
Speed, time and the qualifying rule
| Item | What is known | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Hindi speed | 25 words per minute | Per the advertisement, as reported |
| English speed | 30 words per minute | Per the advertisement, as reported |
| Duration | 5 minutes per language | Reported by coaching coverage; awaited in the admit card instructions |
| Nature | Qualifying only | Per published coverage |
| Error rules | Not published in full; one report mentions a limit of 5 errors before penalties apply | Unconfirmed; awaited |
One report says candidates must clear both Hindi and English, and that failing either one ends the attempt. Another says the language follows the choice made in the application. The notices we could find do not settle this. Until your admit card says otherwise, prepare both languages to the full speed. It costs a few extra sessions and removes the risk.
Aim higher than the minimum. Test-day nerves, an unfamiliar keyboard and a tougher passage usually cost a few words per minute. A comfortable practice level is about 30 WPM in Hindi and 35 WPM in English, with few mistakes. You can check any attempt with our WPM calculator, which shows gross speed, mistakes and net speed.
Hindi font and keyboard layout
This is the question most candidates ask, and the commission had not published the answer when we wrote this. Some coverage names Kruti Dev 010 and Mangal as the Hindi options. Treat that as unconfirmed until the instructions for 12-Exam/2024 appear.
What the two options usually mean:
- Kruti Dev 010 uses the typewriter (Remington) key positions. If you learned on a typewriter or on Kruti Dev, you already know this layout.
- Mangal is a Unicode font. It is typed on either Inscript or Remington GAIL. Remington GAIL keeps most Kruti Dev key positions but produces Unicode text.
TypingHub always types Unicode Devanagari, and you can pick the Remington GAIL, Inscript or Kruti Dev layout in the Layout menu. Keep your computer keyboard on English; the test turns your keys into Hindi letters. Practise the layout you plan to use on the day, and do not switch layouts in the last month. The Remington GAIL vs Inscript guide lists the keys that move between them. For Kruti Dev key practice use the Kruti Dev typing test. For Unicode on Inscript use the Mangal typing test.
Date and admit card status
- 16 September 2026: schedule notice, typing test from 30 October 2026 (as reported).
- 25 September 2026: revised notice, typing test from 13 November 2026 "for unavoidable reasons" (as reported).
- Admit card: to be issued separately. No release date had been announced by 19 October 2026.
Your own date, shift and centre will be on the admit card. With about 46,000 candidates, the test is likely to run over several days, so do not assume you test on the first day. Download the admit card with your registration number from upsssc.gov.in and read the instructions page in full.
A 3-week practice plan on TypingHub
- Week 1, accuracy first: two 5-minute attempts a day in each language on the UPSSSC Junior Assistant practice test. Choose Hindi in the Language menu for the Hindi sessions. Keep mistakes under 5% even if your speed drops.
- Week 2, build speed: add one longer session a day with the 10-minute Hindi typing test and the English typing test. Longer passages make 5 minutes feel easy.
- Week 3, test conditions: sit the scheduled live practice tests on the live typing test page. Everyone gets the same passage at a fixed time, which is close to the real test feeling. Finish with two full rehearsals: Hindi then English, back to back.
If you want graded lessons and more exam passages, the UPSSSC JA typing course has its own Hindi and English passage sets. The night before, go through the typing test day checklist.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Practising only one language. Until the instructions say otherwise, prepare both.
- Changing the Hindi layout late. A switch from Kruti Dev to Inscript in the last weeks drops speed sharply.
- Chasing speed over accuracy. In most typing tests wrong words are deducted, so a fast attempt with many mistakes can fall below the bar.
- Ignoring half letters and matras. In Hindi, a wrong matra or a missing halant makes the whole word wrong.
- Looking at the keys. It slows you down and makes you lose your place in the passage.
- Skipping the screen instructions. Backspace and correction rules vary by exam, so read them before the timer starts.
