The UKSSSC Junior Assistant (Kanishth Sahayak) typing test is a Hindi typing test on computer that comes after the written exam. Under the Commission's standing typing-test instructions it lasts 10 minutes, is typed in the Kruti Dev 010 font, and needs a minimum of 4,000 key depressions per hour (KDPH), which is about 13 words per minute. Errors up to 5% of key depressions are ignored. The written exam for Advt. No. 80/2026 is listed for 15 November 2026 in the Commission's exam programme. The typing test date is not announced yet.
This guide covers Advt. No. 80/UKSSSC/2026 dated 31 August 2026 (general Inter-level posts, Junior Assistant and others). Each fact below names its source. Check your own admit card and the typing-test notice when it comes out.
What the UKSSSC Junior Assistant typing test is
Selection under Advt. No. 80/2026 has three steps: a written objective exam, a typing test, and document verification. Published coverage puts the written paper at 100 objective questions in 2 hours. The typing test only checks whether you can type. It does not add marks to your merit.
The standing instructions, titled "Procedure and instructions for typing tests conducted by the Commission" (uploaded June 2025 on sssc.uk.gov.in), say:
- For each vacancy, 4 candidates per category and sub-category are called from the written-exam merit list.
- The result is only Qualified or Not Qualified.
- Those who qualify are called for document verification on the basis of written-exam merit.
So the written exam decides your rank, and the typing test decides whether you stay in the list. You can do well in the written exam and still lose the post on typing.
Speed, time and error rules
| Item | Rule in the UKSSSC instructions |
|---|---|
| Language | Hindi, on computer |
| Font | Kruti Dev 010 |
| Duration | 10 minutes; the software closes on its own |
| Trial | 2-minute demo before the test, which can be repeated; you sign its printout before the test starts |
| Minimum speed | 4,000 KDPH |
| Errors | Up to 5% of total key depressions ignored; above that, 5 correct key depressions cut for each wrong one |
| Space bar | A correct Space counts as a key depression; a wrong Space counts as a negative one |
| Result | Qualified / Not Qualified |
4,000 KDPH is about 667 key depressions in 10 minutes. If a word is taken as 5 key depressions, that is roughly 13 WPM. Our WPM calculator shows your speed and mistakes from any practice attempt.
The bar sounds low, but the error rule is strict. Once your errors pass 5% of all key depressions, every wrong key costs five correct ones. A fast typist with many wrong keys can fall below 4,000 KDPH. Advt. 80 covers several posts, and coverage reports that some of them also ask for English typing or computer knowledge. Read the requirement printed for your post in the advertisement.
Font and keyboard layout: Kruti Dev 010
The instructions name Kruti Dev 010. This is a legacy (non-Unicode) font laid out in typewriter key order, the same family of keys as Remington. In this order, the short i matra (ि) is typed before the consonant, and half letters have their own keys. Inscript and phonetic typing do not help here.
TypingHub types Unicode Devanagari and offers Remington GAIL, Inscript and Kruti Dev layouts. For UKSSSC, pick Kruti Dev in the Layout menu. The keys you press match the Kruti Dev 010 typewriter order, and the screen shows Unicode text. Keep your system keyboard on English. Read how the Kruti Dev typing test works, or compare layouts in Remington GAIL vs Inscript.
Other rules from the instructions:
- A wrong key shows an x mark. You may erase it with Backspace, or press Space and move on.
- Function keys and shortcuts such as Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Alt+F4 are banned. Using them can cancel your candidature.
- Check that Caps Lock is off before you start.
- The text you type is highlighted in the passage on the left, so you can see where you are.
Exam date and typing test schedule
The Commission's exam programme No. 1652 dated 25 August 2026 lists the general Inter-level posts (Junior Assistant and others) with an advertisement date of 31 August 2026 and a proposed written exam on 15 November 2026. The revised programme No. 1775 dated 8 September 2026 did not change that row. The Commission notes that proposed dates may change.
Applications ran from 8 September to 7 October 2026, with a correction window from 12 to 14 October (as reported). Coverage reports about 553 posts in all.
Do not mix this up with Advt. No. 78/2026. Notice No. 255 dated 18 October 2026 postponed the written exams of 25 October (Junior Assistant and Stenographer Grade-1 / Personal Assistant, Civil Court and Family Court, Advt. 78) and 1 November (Assistant Accountant and other posts, Advt. 79). That notice does not mention Advt. 80.
The typing test date for Advt. 80 is awaited. It will follow the written result. Bring your admit card, Aadhaar card and a recent colour passport-size photo. Attendance is biometric, and the test runs under CCTV.
A 3-week practice plan on TypingHub
You have about four weeks to the written exam. Give the written paper most of your time, and add 25 to 30 minutes of typing a day.
Week 1: learn the keys
- Open the UKSSSC Junior Assistant typing test. It starts in Hindi on the Kruti Dev keys.
- Type slowly. Learn the ि-before-consonant order and the half letters. Aim for no more than one wrong word in a line.
- Do one 10-minute test a day, and write down your speed and mistakes.
Week 2: steady 10 minutes
- Take the free live typing test for timed practice on fresh text.
- Target 14 to 16 WPM with very few errors. That leaves a cushion over 4,000 KDPH.
- Use the 10-minute Hindi typing test for extra Hindi passages at the exam length.
Week 3: test conditions
- Type the full 10 minutes without stopping. Fix an error only when it is the last key you pressed.
- Work through the levels of the UKSSSC JA course if you want a daily plan.
- Read the typing test day checklist before the centre visit.
Common mistakes
- Practising on the wrong layout. Inscript or phone typing will not transfer to Kruti Dev 010. Choose the Kruti Dev layout from day one.
- Racing for speed. The bar is low. Every wrong key above 5% costs five correct ones, so accuracy matters more.
- Extra spaces. A wrong Space counts as a negative key depression. Do not tap Space twice between words.
- Going back too far. Long Backspace runs eat your 10 minutes. Correct only the last wrong key.
- Leaving typing until after the result. The gap between the written result and the typing test can be short. Start now.
Other exams follow different rules, which you can compare in Hindi typing test rules by exam.
